Rains to weaken in Cebu after ‘Juaning’ exit
THE rains in Cebu would subside within the week following the departure of Tropical Storm Juaning from the country, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said yesterday.
Pagasa weather analyst Alex Padin said Cebu will continue to experience rain showers and thunderstorms with heavy winds.
But this won’t be as heavy as the previous days due to Juaning’s impending exit.
Padin said even if the rains subside, residents of landslide- and flood-prone areas should continue to monitor their areas to ensure their safety.
The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC-7) said it is monitoring flood-prone areas in Central Visayas.
Engineer Vernil Balaba, administrative officer of RDCC, said they recorded one death in Siquijor last Tuesday afternoon.
An 8-year-old pupil died after the perimeter fence of an elementary school collapsed on him due to the flood in Kandarang, north Siquijor.
Juaning is still positioned northeast of Baguio City as of yesterday afternoon. Visayas will experience monsoon rains, while the the rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds will prevail over the rest of the country and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
In Mandaue City, about 736 pieces of equipment were given to 27 barangays for use in rescue and relief operations in calamity areas.
Mayor Jonas Cortes said the P3-million purchase of equipment was sourced from the city’s disaster calamity fund.
Trainings will also be given to the barangays by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF).
