Some 200 day care children in the Central Visayas participated in the recent Regional Children’s Contest held in SM City Cebu in culmination of the 20th National Children’s Month.
The contest was organized by the government thru Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) to promote and protect the physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being of the children aged 3-4 years old.
The children competed in three categories: singing, folk dance and draw and tell contest.
Gella Medel Vergara of Cebu City belted a broadway musical song “Somewhere” and finished first place in the singing category. Charles Novel Villamil of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental and Niña Mae Caserial of Toledo City, Cebu finished second and third place in the same category.
For the draw and tell contest, the children showcased their communication and creativity. Mark John Mariano from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental bested 14 other contestants to win first place. Raiza Mae Tawason of Balamban, southwest Cebu placed second, while Princess IC Abiero of Pamplona, Negros Oriental emerged third place.
Eleven contingents showed their dancing prowess in the folk dance category. The team from Cebu City was declared the grand champion, while Mandaue City and Toledo City placed runners-up.
All winners received cash prizes and certificates of recognition.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Bright Child ay Siguraduhin, Responsableng Pamamahayag ay Palaganapin,” to underscore the important role of media to the children.
