CEBU CITY — Seven persons were injured shortly before Wednesday midnight when the cargo box of the light truck they were riding was detached from the chassis along the South Road Properties in Barangay (village) Mambaling, this city.
Traffic investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Porferio Lim Jr. said the victims were passengers of an Isuzu Elf cargo truck (plate number GNW 124), which was carrying different farm products like vegetables, flowers, charcoal, firewood and other items from Carcar City to Carbon Market in Cebu City.
The injured were identified as Virginia Alquisola, 48; Mary Grace Sorono, 28; Amorlisa Alquisola, 40; Demetria Delicano, 50; Rosemarie Ababa, 40; Avelina Espinosa, 50 and Rebecca Iligan, 45, all from Carcar City.
They sustained minor bruises and contusions and were brought to Cebu City Medical Center and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Lim said the accident happened at 11:40 p.m. when driver Rolando Vitorillo, 53, was maneuvering the light truck towards the Mambaling access road.
Lim said the cargo box was detached from its chassis because it was overloaded.
He added that the driver was first brought to the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) but was released upon the request of the victims so that he could get money for their hospital expenses.
The victims have no plans of filing charges against Vitorillo because he was a neighbor.
