MCIAA, Lapu gov’t to review taxable, nontaxable port areas

The Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) and Lapu-Lapu city government formed an issue reconciliation committee to look into the taxable and nontaxable areas in the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Airport general manager Paul Nigel Villarete and Mayor Paz Radaza agreed that the committee would have three personnel from the MCIAA and three from the City Hall headed by city attorney Micheal Dignos.

Radaza said the committee will identify areas in the MCIAA that will be tax exempt aside from the runway and taxi way.

“We are slowly checking on what areas generate income,” Radaza said. She pointed out that they need to look for other ways to generate income due to the reduction of their Income Revenue Allotment (IRA) next year.

Villarete said that when the committee is done with the report, it would still be endorsed to Congress for approval./reporter jucell marie. p. cuyos
