Folayang loses in URCC via TKO

/ 08:18 AM December 03, 2012

THE TWO Filipino headliners met contrasting fates as Eric Kelly kept this featherweight title after defeating Brad Terry via submission while Eduard Folayang, long considered to be the country’s best mixed martial arts fighter, was upset by Lowens Tynanes via technical knockout during the 10th anniversary fight card of the University Reality Combat Championship dubbed “Dekada” at the Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday night.

Fighting with an injury to his eye, Kelly courageously locked in an armbar with 2:10 left in the final round to which Terry tapped out to, to continue his featherweight reign.

However, Folayang had the misfortune of having the fight stopped at the 6:22 mark of the first round after a huge cut was opened above his right eye. Folayang, who last fought in the URCC during the Cebu card dubbed as “Dominate” last January, dropped to 14-3 (win-loss) while the 20-year-old Tynanes notched his fourth win in a row. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
