End of the world? Not in 2012, claim Quiapo psychics

The Mayan calendar supposedly predicts that the world will end on Dec. 21 but the fortune tellers in Quiapo, Manila, are not buying it.

The end may come in the form of a war or the start of the ice age or the Lord’s “second coming” but to psychics clustered at one corner of Plaza Miranda in front of Quiapo Church, none of these scenarios will happen anytime soon.

“The end of the world is true but it will not happen immediately. We will still count up to year 7000,” says Brother Victor.

“According to my vibes, God will be merciful. He will not punish the people. He will appear and we will all become statues after seeing Him,” Victor adds.  “That’s the message sent to me by the good spirit,” the man who is in his 60’s says in a solemn voice.

He quickly adds, however, that should the world end before Christ’s return, it will be due to human folly.

“When the warrior comes, people will cause the end of the world. There will be a war,” he explains.

Brother Alex, one of the psychics who can be found seated at monobloc tables and chairs under huge umbrellas at Plaza Miranda, also believe the end will come in the form of a war.

But 64-year-old Madam Lilia mumbles, “That is not revealed yet. The end will come when you don’t expect it. And it will not be for years and years.”

The clairvoyant, who is wearing a scarf around her head and an amulet necklace, claims she read the fortune of Manny Pacquiao

before his first fight.

“He was just an ordinary person who was wearing an undershirt and shorts. I told him he should fight because he will become a champion and a millionaire,” she says.

Another psychic, Madam Precy says with a smile, “No, the world will not end yet. The Lord will take pity because Christmas and New Year are just around the corner.”
