MANILA, Philippines — A teacher and his brothers were arrested after beating a 17-year-old boy on Saturday night in Marikina City.
Police identified the suspects as Ferdie Santos, 33, a high school teacher at Tañong High School in Marikina City, and siblings Dante, 48, and Alex, 32, residents of No. 299 Shoe Avenue, Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City.
Police Officer 2 Victor Viñas of the Marikina City’s Sto. Niño station said the young man was just pacifying his drunk brother who had challenged the suspects to a fist fight.
But while taking his brother inside their house at Shoe Avenue, Barangay (village) Sto. Niño, the suspects directed their ire at him by hitting him with a flower vase and punching his mouth and head at around 9:15 p.m., Viñas added.
The suspects were not drunk, police said.
Case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Gemma Morabueno of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of Marikina said in a report that the three were detained at the city police station’s detention cell and a child abuse case against them would be filed in the city prosecution’s office.
