Pols in narc trade watched
SAN PABLO CITY—A top official of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Southern Luzon said on Thursday that the agency has been monitoring politicians in the region allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Lawyer Benedict Villalba, legal officer of PDEA Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), told reporters in a press conference here that the PDEA has been conducting surveillance on these so-called narcopoliticians.
He said, however, that he was not at liberty to identify the politicians or in a position to divulge details of the PDEA investigation.
He said the PDEA cannot alone stop drug trafficking in the country and needs the help of media, police, citizens and “all stakeholders.” Romulo O. Ponte, Southern Luzon Bureau
