The suspect in the brutal killing of two girls at their home in Caloocan City on Sunday has been arrested by the police in Albay province where he sought shelter in the house of relatives.
Caloocan police said they caught Gilbert Fulloso, the prime suspect in the killing of Diana Rose Liza, 15; and her cousin Joanna Marie Coronado, 10, early Sunday morning.
Fulloso, 27, was turned over by relatives to the police after sending surrender feelers.
Chief Insp. Rodrigo Soriano, of the Caloocan investigation department, and Senior Insp. Enrique Torres of the Caloocan warrant section, fetched the suspect from his relatives’ home in Polangui, Albay, said Caloocan Police chief Rimas Calixto.
The police are set to file murder charges against Fulloso, following evidence that he had planned the killing after Liza, whom he was reportedly courting, dumped him.
The two girls were home alone at the time of the incident.
Coronado’s younger brother found the bodies when he went to the Liza residence at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Police are still waiting for the results of tests to confirm if the 10-year-old had been raped.
Both victims died of multiple stab wounds. A bloodied kitchen knife apparently used by the suspect was found in the kitchen.
Police added that the suspect, a neighbor of the victims, broke into the house by destroying the lock of the front door.
Drops of blood from the Liza house in Barangay 12, Dagat-Dagatan led to Fulloso’s home, prompting investigators to consider him a suspect.
A witness claimed that two hours before the bodies were discovered, the suspect had admitted to her that he killed the girls.
