2 men killed in shootout with Rizal cops

MANILA, Philippines–Two men were killed after shooting at police in Rizal past midnight Friday, an official said.

Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal provincial chief, said the shootout transpired in front of the Pamantasan ng Montalban in Kasiglahan Village, Barangay (village) San Jose in Rodriguez, around 12:50 a.m., killing the two still unidentified suspects on the spot.

He said police authorities were conducting checkpoint operations along the area when the suspects, who were onboard a motorcycle, were asked to stop as their vehicle didn’t have a plate number.

“Suspects sped away and one of them [backrider] opened fire upon the lawmen, prompting the latter to retaliate,” Anduyan said.

Recovered from the suspects, he said, were a Colt series 80 caliber .45, a Smith and Wesson caliber .38 revolver, two sachets of suspected shabu, a sachet of suspected marijuana, a strip of aluminum foil, eight fired cartridges, a cellular phone, and the Honda XRM motorcycle used by the suspects.
