TOURISM development in Olango Island off the coast of Lapu-Lapu City will soon get a boost with the construction of a sports complex, dubbed as the mini hoopsdome after the multi-purpose stadium in the mainland.
According to Mayor Paz Radaza, the mini-hoops dome will invite more tourists to go the Olango — generate jobs and income to the island.
Radaza has declared Olango Island as Lapu-Lapu City’s new tourism frontier.
She wants to replicate in the island the city’s success as an important tourism destination in the country.
The mini-hoops dome will be constructed in a 1,215 square meters lot beside the mini city hall in barangay Talima. The hoopsdome will have a seating capacity of 1,000 people.
The mini-hoops dome will be a sports arena and venue of entertainment events like concerts. It can even be used a evacuation center in times of calamities, Radaza said.
The Lapu-Lapu City government will spend P15 million for the project.
