MANILA, Philippines – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) two pythons previously found in its depot in Pasay City.
Hernando Cabrera, LRTA spokesman, personally brought Thursday the two pythons measuring 13.2 feet and 10 feet each to the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) in Quezon City.
Cabrera said that the snakes most likely ventured into the train depot because the authorities were conducting clean-up operations to get rid of the accumulated materials and foliage in the yard.
Employees in the depot said that the snakes came out as the grasses were being cleared in the area.
Cabrera said in a separate interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM that they only undertake a clean-up of the depot quarterly every year. He added that there was also a small creek near the depot.
Engineer Emerson Benitez, officer-in-charge of the LRT depot, said “our clean-up drive is ongoing at the depot in order to get rid of the accumulating scrap materials and garbage as well as to get rid the area of thick grasses.”
