MANILA, Philippines—An alleged illegal drugs trader, considered as the number 2 drug pusher in Central Mindanao, was arrested by authorities in General Santos City, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official said Thursday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac said suspect Danny “Doydoy” Borinaga, 23, was arrested near his home in San Juan, Silway, Barangay (village) Dadiangas West, General Santos City around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday after allegedly selling a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, to an undercover agent.

Cacdac said Borinaga comes second in PDEA’s target list of drug traders in Central Mindanao, and is said to be a member of Malacañang Drug Group.

“His arrest is expected to affect the supply of shabu in General Santos City and its neighboring municipalities,” the official said.

Recovered from the suspect were a five-inch long ice pick, a seven-inch long double-sided knife, and the marked money used in the transaction.

“We are steadily chipping away drug personalities in the regions. This is in line with our operational thrust to neutralize priority high-value targets and conduct quality anti-illegal drug operations,” Cacdac said.

The suspect has been charged with violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II, of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and is temporarily detained at the PDEA RO12 jail facility. Jamie Marie Elona
