MANILA, Philippines – The Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 has resumed normal operations, after its passengers panicked when the brakes of one of its trains malfunctioned and created smoke.

In a phone interview, lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRT spokesman, said operations at the Carriedo station resumed just roughly five minutes after people rushed out of the train.
“Nagbabaan mga pasahero nung nangamoy brake pad pero nakita naman nila na wala naman kaya nagbalikan din sila sa loob and umandar din ulit yung train,” he said.
Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported that a passenger identified as Odesa Nuevo was injured on her foot in the ensuing rush of people trying to get out of the train that was headed for Baclaran.
Cabrera, in an interview with DZIQ said, the brakes of the trains malfunctioned and created the smoke.
But in a separate interview, the LRT spokesman said, that it was just normal, considering that there was friction when the brakes were applied.
“Alam mo naman, pag may isang nag panic, sunod sunod na yan,” he said.
Cabrera then advised commuters taking the train to not panic and instead listen to announcements over the public address system to know what was happening in case of such events.
