Manila firm sets up shop in Cebu

The entrance of many Manila-based real estate developers to Cebu has prompted a major construction materials retailer to setup two depot centers in Cebu this year.

The group saw Cebu as a large growth market for the business, said  Rosemarie B. Ong  Wilcon Builders executive vice president and chief operations officer told Cebu Daily News on Monday at the

The first Wilcon Builder’s Depot opened in Lawaan, Talisay City last August with a floor area of 8,000 square meters. It targets the fast growing consumer market in the southern part of Cebu.

“We will also soon open the second depot along U.N. Avenue in Mandaue City that will cater to the northern part of Cebu,” said Ong.

Each of the depots will employ at least a hundred people to help run the warehouse-type of establishment that will offer more options for the Cebuano market.

According to Ong, their major growth area is the retail consumer end market and they expect the same markets to fuel their growth here in Cebu as well.

“The solid population base of at least three million Cebuanos is large enough for us to sustain and grow our business here. We all know that outside of Manila, Cebu is the fastest growing economy fueled by industries such as tourism, outsourcing and the OFW (overseas Filipino workers) remittances,” said Ong.

Wilcon Builders Depot will carry a complete line of products needed for construction including for residential developments which Ong noted is fast growing in Cebu.”
