Minglanilla absorbs 2nd loss but still makes final

SECOND seed Minglanilla suffered its second loss after bowing to San Fernando, 82-91, last Saturday in the First Gullas Cup First District Basketball Tournament at the Sibonga Sports Complex.

San Fernando tore Minglanilla’s defense in the second half resulting in 14 third quarter points to erase its two-point second quarter deficit. San fernando continued to wax hot until the final buzzer for the nine-point win.

Junrey Ebardo led San Fernando with 25 points as the town guns for  third place against Carcar City on Dec. 1 at the Talisay Sports Complex.

Ed Bonphyl Macasling paced Minglanilla with 21 points while Raymond Tapanan added 19.

However, despite the loss, Minglanilla still advanced to the championship match against top seed Talisay also on Dec. 1.

Meanwhile, Noel Estomago scored a career-high 34 points as Sibonga earned its second win with an, 81-73 drubbing of Carcar City.

Darwin Mesa led Carcar with 24 points.

After the grueling eliminations, Talisay leads the standings with a 9-1 record followed by Minglanilla with an 8-2 slate. San Fernando finished third (5-5) while Carcar finished fourth with a 4-2 card. Sibonga finished fifth (2-8) while Naga is at the bottom with a, 1-9 record.
