The suspect, identified as Jojie Aguirre, 38, was caught outside of their house in Barangay (village) 7, Moises Padilla town, after a neighbor alerted the police about the incident at around 6:07 a.m.
A police spot report said the headless body of the victim, identified as Nenita Aguirre, 70, was found lying at the open door of the kitchen. The severed head was found atop a small table in the living room, the report added.
Police also found a blood-stained 20-inch sugarcane bolo in the house as well as blood stains on the chair beside the small table. The suspect’s white t-shirt and short pants also had blood stains on them, police said.
The suspect reportedly has a history of alcohol addiction, police added.
The suspect has been detained at the police station while the victim’s remains have been brought to a funeral parlor.
Police have yet to determine the motivation for the crime.
