UST begins UAAP finals rematch with Ateneo; SWU plays San Beda in battle for third

Revenge will be on the menu waiting to be served today in both matches in the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) including Game One of the best-of-three Finals series at the Arena in San Juan City.

All eyes will be on the opening game of the championship series between Ateneo Blue Eagles and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, a rematch of this year’s thrilling UAAP Finals, which the former won.

The Southwestern University (SWU) will also be eyeing revenge against the NCAA rulers San Beda when the two teams square off for third place starting at 2 p.m.

The Cobras are still seething over their 72-73 loss to the Red Lions last week in a game that went down to the last play.

Unfortunately for SWU, things did not go its way as it failed to get off a shot as time expired.  That spoiled the Cobras’ comeback from 20 points down in the second half.

Momentum appears to be on SWU’s side as it is  coming off a 93-91 win over UST last weekend.

Cameroonian forward Ben Mbala had another one of his coming-out parties as he scored a whopping 41 points and added 16 boards, just days after torching San Beda with 27 markers.

For SWU head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba he  wants to treat this match as if it was a championship game.

“We want to treat it like a championship game. A third-place finish would be like a championship for us, “ said the multi-titled coach.
