THE University of San Carlos opened its title bids with success in the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup over the weekend at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
USC’s boys 23 streaked past the University of the Visayas, 1-0, while its girls 17 team inflicted a 9-0 routing on Cebu International School.
Ateneo de Cebu also started its girls 17 title retention bid with success with a 5-0 demolition of Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue, the same team they eclipsed for the title in the tournament’s 14th edition.
In the intercompany category, Arkiteks UTD, Innodata, Leylam, Timex BP and Accenture all survived against their first assignments.
Arkiteks UTD edged Timex LS, 2-1, Innodata also scored 2-1 against Convergys A, Leylam blanked Stream 1-0, Timex BP also scored 1-0 against Convergys B and Accenture annihilated WiPro, 4-0.
In the 38-above category, Balliant Hawk UTD sneaked in a lone goal against Hiroshi FC while Erco FC lambasted San Roque Football Club, 5-0.
In the players 6, AdC scored its second win in the tournament with a 2-0 blanking of Bright Academy A.
The other matches in the category saw Bright Academy B annihilating Children’s Paradise Montessori School, 6-0, Don Bosco A outsmarting VEPS, 2-0, and Don Bosco B and Guiseppe ending their match in a scoreless draw. / CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
