Two armed robbers shot to death Sunday morning a security guard at a 24-hour convenience store in Quezon City after he got in their way.
Footage taken by a closed-circuit television camera showed the two men gunning down the security guard and taking his service firearm before fleeing.
The victim, 30-year-old Reynaldo Guiatao of Pichel’s Security Agency, died on the spot after he was shot in the abdomen and neck.
Police Officer 2 Roldan Cornejo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the robbery attempt happened at 6 a.m. in a convenience store at the corner of Quezon Avenue and Scout Reyes Street in Barangay (village) Paligsahan.
According to Cornejo, the security guard was manning his post inside the convenience store when two men entered the establishment and started looking around.
Guiatao then noticed one of the two men taking out a gun, prompting him to reach for his own firearm. However, the robber beat him to the draw and shot him in the abdomen.
Before escaping, one of the men grabbed Guiatao’s revolver and shot him in the neck at close range.
Store cashier Nelia Nebrida told police investigators that the robbers failed to get anything from the establishment.
