2 inmates bolt jail

TWO inmates facing illegal drug charges bolted out of their cell in Tuburan town, Cebu at dawn yesterday.

An operation is underway to recapture Jenard Magpuyo, 25, and Danilo Navarro, 51, both from Tuburan, said Insp. Welter Grapa, chief of the Tuburan police.

Magpuyo was arrested last May while Navarro was arrested on October.

Grapa said the two inmates escaped by destroying the wooden frame of the cell’s door.

The jail was about 20 meters from the police  barracks.

Grapa said PO1 Jezrel Perigo went to the barracks to cook noodles and was surprised to see the cell’s door destroyed when he went back to the jail.

Perigo conducted a head count and alter found out that the two inmates were missing. There were 15 inmates in the jail.

According to other inmates, it was Magpuyo who planned the escape.

Grapa said he was in Cebu City for a meeting when the incident happened.

Grapa said they were supposed to commit the two inmates to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) but the jail management told them that the facility was already full.

Grapa said Perigo, PO3 Jeremias Awit; PO1 Julivy Roco; SPO1 Condevillamar; PO3 Camelo Abaquita; and PO2 Ariel Maravillas will be investigated for the incident./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
