Ateneo Blue Night and Charity Golf set Dec. 5

THE Ateneo Alumni Association Cebu, Inc. will hold the Ateneo Blue Night and Charity Golf Tournament on Dec. 5.

The Blue Night will be held at The Loft while the golf tournament will be held at the Cebu Country Club.

The event is held to celebrate the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ five-peat accomplishment in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament. It also hopes to attract charity pledges for the Ateneo dorm scholars.

Franco Soberano of the Ateneo Alumni Association Cebu, Inc. said this is not the first time they are hosting charity projects but this is the first time that they have announced it to the public since they are tying up this latest charity project with the celebration of the Blue Eagles’ accomplishment in the UAAP.

Joe Soberano, president of the Ateneo Alumni Association Cebu, Inc., said during a press conference yesterday at the Cebu Country Club that the 5-peat is worth a celebration.

He added that their alumni association does not only recognize the graduates of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) but also consider as part of their group those coming from Ateneo de Davao, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan and Ateneo de Naga University.

According to Soberano, one of the reasons they have called for a press conference is to invite Ateneans and their family to the Blue Night that will start at 6 p.m. Tickets for the Blue Night is pegged at P500. The awarding of the golf tournament will also be held during the Blue Night.

Organizers also said they will try to bring in members of the Blue Eagles to the event, especially those with Cebuano roots such as Greg Slaughter, Oping Sumalinog, Kris Porter and Nico Elorde. They are also looking to bring in Keifer Ravena.

The golf tournament will be an individual medal play with two divisions, A and B.

Tournament chairman Toby Florendo said the first tee off will be at 6:30 a.m. and the last at 11 a.m.

The tournament is open to non-alumni members. Registration fee is pegged at P1,500, which already includes the ticket for the Blue Night.

Benefits for both events will go to the Ateneo dorm scholars or otherwise known as ADMU scholars who are staying at the Cervini Hall.

Tony del Prado, who is the project head of the Ateneo dorm scholars, said that ADMU has 187 scholars and about 15 percent of them need food subsidy every month because this is not included in their scholarship. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
