A 25-year-old man was severely injured after his leg was run over by a 10-wheeler truck while his companion was mauled by bystanders as they tried to escape after allegedly robbing a passenger jeepney in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Minesterio Rojayme, 25, and Arjay Bonilad were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.
The two men were accused of robbing Alleagen Cabusa, 25, inside a jeepney bounded for Consolacion town past 10 p.m. last Thursday night.
Armed with knives, they forcibly took Cabusa’s bag containing P3,600 cash, an iPhone and other valuables, said Senior Insp. Franco Rudolf Oriol, chief of the Subangdaku police station.
Police said the robbery took place while the jeepney was traveling in sitio Mahusay.
When the suspects disembarked, Cabusa shouted for help, catching the attention of patrolling tanods.
The tanods sought help from the police.
Police said bystanders gave chase and cornered the suspects.
Rojayme was mauled by the bystanders, while Bonilad was able to run.
Police said Bonilad clung to a passing 10-wheeler truck but jumped off after seeing the policemen.
Police said Bonilad lost his balance and his left leg got run over.
