More security cameras eyed after robbery
MORE security cameras are being considered for Cebu City Hall following last week’s theft of a laptop from the office of Councilor Alvin Dizon.
Councilor Roberto Cabbarubias said he would propose buying 46 more units for installation in the lobby and grounds of City Hall
The city government already spent P2.1 million for 46 security cameras earlier installed in the City Treasurer’s Office on the second floor of the executive building and the cash division office on the third floor.
Dizon’s city-issued laptop was taken from a desk in his locked office at the third floor of the legislative building.
There was no sign of forced entry and no other valuables were taken.
The theft was the third in the building in two months.
Cabbarubias said that if City Hall buys more cameras, they should have good data storage capacity with internal micro SD cards of about 8 gigabytes and an un-interruptible power supply (UPS) so they would continue to function even during brownouts.
Vice Mayor Augustus Joy Young said the private security agency, Care Best International, should be held liable for the loss of Dizon’s office laptop because the agency is supposed to secure City Hall especially at night.
Mayor Rama said the adding extra security cameras was long overdue and agreed that private security guards on duty should be held responsible for the loss of Dizon’s laptop.
“I totally agree. I’m looking at them and we are paying them so they should be responsible enough to watch the legislative building,” Rama said.
Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, Cebu City police chief, visited Dizon’s office Monday to look into the burglary.
“If they cannot give me a report, I will follow this up on Friday,” the councilor told Cebu Daily News.
