Bakers eye back to back victories

THE CAFE FRANCE Bakers try to win their second straight game when they battle the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup today at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The Bakers defeated Erase Xfoliant, 73-58, last Thursday to hike their record to 2-1 (win-loss).

The Café France-Cebuana Lhuillier showdown is scheduled at 4 p.m. following the game between Jose Rizal University and Informatics at 2 p.m.

Roger Pogoy turned in a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Erase Exfoliant as the Bakers snapped the Erasers’ two-game winning run. Michael Parala, Jen Knuttel, John Jamon and Alvin Padilla also scored in double digits for Café France, which will try to catch up the idle Cagayan Valley Rising Suns at third place.

The Gems lost by a hairline, 90-91, against Fruitas last Nov.8 then absorbed a disappointing 61-81 blowout against Big Chill Thursday last week to join the ranks of the bottom teams with a 1-2 mark.

How Informatics, the reigning Collegiate Athletics League champion, would fare against three-time NCAA semi-finalists JRU makes the first game interesting to watch. Both teams have made good account of their potentials early in the conference. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
