ALONG with the introduction of K to 12 education system in the country are public speculations on the readiness of teachers for this new format.
“We are trying our best to capacitate the teachers to become efficient in the delivery of their lessons,” said Dr. Carmensita Dinampo, head of the Curriculum and Learning Management Division of Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7).
During the Nov. 10 episode of “Pagtuki” where Dinampo was the guest speaker, the DepEd official said some elementary and secondary teachers have already underwent divisional, regional and national trainings for the K to 12 program. The school administrators who have undergone trainings will share their knowledge to fellow teachers in their division.
“In the K to12 program, we provide teachers guides aligned to the new system. Teachers can also modify this guide to fit the needs of their students,” she said.
“We also made consultations with the local government units and non-government organizations on the K to 12. Providing quality education cannot be done by schools alone. We need partners,” she said.
“The goal of the K to 12 is communicative competence. However, we need further researches and studies to address certain problems in the new education system,” she stressed.
The K to 12 program has also introduced the use of mother tongue as a medium of instruction from kindergarten to Grade 3 in both public and private schools.
The Pagtuki radio program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. is aired over dyLA every Saturday at 10-11 a.m.
