Police disarm landmines planted on N. Cotabato roadside

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines—Two improvised landmines planted along national highway in the village of Marbel here were recovered by authorities around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The landmines were placed some three meters from a waiting shed where students of the Jalipa Memorial High School usually stay during break time.

Superintendent Renante Cabico, Kidapawan  police chief, said the explosives were planted by unidentified person Monday nigh less than a kilometer away from a command post of the military’s 57th Infantry Battalion.

Cabico said a farmer discovered the explosives after noticing wires protruding from the ground.

Police are still investigating the incident.
