Deception point

Many could not understand why Aman Futures , Inc. was able to victimize thousands of people in a pyramiding scam. Didn’t people  learn from the Legacy scam where hundreds of thousands of bank clients were duped?

I think the thought of earning money quick lured many people. The  modus  always involves an offer to  double your money. That attracted many people who totally forgot the warnings about these risky ventures.

And who are the victims?   Many are low-income earners and retirees who would love to get more money to be able to bear difficulties in life and rise from poverty.

What  pyramiding scams offer is too good to be true. No one in his right mind would run a business where investors get twice what they invested in so short a span of time.

The  Pagadian City government would have helped the public if it was also cautious in investing and giving a business permit to Aman but sad to say, the officials were also victimized.

Plagiarism is   a serious concern among teachers especially with the popular use of advanced technology.

At the University of San Carlos,  our teachers have caught some students plagiarizing in their research papers. They used the work of others without acknowledging the author.

What Sen. Vicente Sotto III did was wrong regardless of his alibi and should not be tolerated by the Senate leadership. Senators  are supposed to be  lawmakers,  not law breakers.

It would a shame if the Senate would just ignore Sotto’s plagiarism which has caught the attention of the international community including the Kennedy family.

Sotto tried to defend himself by saying that he just translated what Kennedy said in Pilipino. Still, one needs to acknowledge the source because the substance or thought of what you stated is not yours.

I think Sotto should seriously look into making amends for his plagiarized statements for the sake of the hallowed institution that he  represents. After all, nobody is perfect and the people may be kind enough to understand him. However, with his present behavior, they are just outraged.

Last week, Cebu made history in the world of sports when the Philippine Azkals played against the Singapore Lions at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The  venue was filled with football fans and  the event caused horrendous traffic in the vicinity.

In a way the game promoted the not so popular sport in Cebu  (basketball is still most popular in our country). I would like to congratulate the heroes of the football association for being so courageous in bringing the exhibition match of the Azkals and the Lions to Cebu, especially the members who offered their services and money to make it a successful event.

My brother in law Rico Navarro was very busy preparing for the big event.  I could his excitement in preparing for it especially during the day of the game. More so when he learned that the tickets were nearly sold out a day before the game.

I saw him so proud and I believe his excitement and joy is  shared by those who, like Carolinian Pericles Dakay, helped one way or another to make the event a reality.

Congratulations to all those who work so hard in making this sport dream a reality for us Cebuanos!
