RUBY Busita, a BS Accountancy freshman student of Silliman University (SU), was adjudged the provincial winner in the recently concluded 21st Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) held at Negros Oriental State University (Norsu) recently.
First runner-up was Ramil Espere Jr., a BS Geology student of Norsu. Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria (Cosca) student Tristan Ted Abunal won as second runner-up.
National Statistics Office (NSO) Provincial Census officer Ariel Fortuito said the three winners will represent Negros Oriental in the regional PSQ today, Nov. 20 in Cebu City.
Fortuito said the PSQ is designed to test college freshmen students about their knowledge on statistics.
A total of 12 contestants from the different universities and colleges in the province, such as SU, Norsu, Cosca, Foundation University, AMA-Dumaguete, Asian College of Science and Technology Dumaguete and Maxino College participated in this year’s competition.
The 21st PSQ is conducted nationwide among freshmen students enrolled in colleges and universities in the 17 regions of the country.
At stake for the winners in the PSQ National Finals are cash and trophies, among others. All regional champions will also be awarded during the National Finals with a PSQ medal and a certificate of recognition.
Their respective coaches, the college or university where they are currently enrolled, as well as the high school where they graduated from, will likewise be given certificates of recognition.
The Philippine Statistics Quiz is an annual contest which started in 1992 and has been endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education since 1994.
