NPA guerrilla killed in clash with gov’t troops in Compostela Valley

MANILA, Philippines – A communist rebel has been killed in a 45-minute encounter with government troops in Compostela Valley, the military said  Monday.

Troops from the 25th Infantry Battalion were conducting a security patrol when it encountered about 30 members of the New People’s Army in sitio (sub-village) Bongabong, in Awao village, Monkayo town Sunday morning.

One body was recovered from the firefight but it remained unidentified, said Lt. Col. Cesar  Molina, Commander of the 25th Infantry Battalion.

Also recovered in the area were two high powered firearms, one improvised landmine, tents and food.
