Tropical storm ‘Juaning’ falls in Quezon prov on Wednesday morning

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical storm “Juaning” (International name: NOCK-TEN) was forecast to make landfall over Polillo Island in Quezon province between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.

In its latest weather bulletin issued at 5 a.m., Pagasa said that as of 4 a.m., Juaning was seen 90 km east of Infanta, Quezon. The tropical storm has intensified further and is now packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph.
Juaning was forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph. Between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Juaning was forecast to be over the vicinity of Southern Aurora and traverse Central Luzon, Pagasa said.

Signal number 2 remains raised over Camarines Norte, Quezon province including Polillo Island, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union and
Metro Manila.

Signal number 1 remains hoisted over Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Burias Island, Romblon, Mindoro Provinces, Lubang Island, Isabela, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao and Cagayan.

Storm signal warnings elsewhere have been lowered, the state-run weather bureau said.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signals 2 and 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone, Pagasa warned.

Tropical storm Juaning will enhance the southwest monsoon and was forecast to bring widespread rains over the rest of Luzon and western Visayas, Pagasa said.

By Thursday morning, Juaning will be in the vicinity of Dagupan city and by Friday morning it will be 410 km west northwest of Laoag City, Pagasa said.
