MMDA: Number coding still lifted Wednesday

/ 05:14 AM July 27, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the number coding would continue to be lifted today (Wednesday), due to Storm Signal No. 2 that was raised over Metro Manila.

Emma Loristo of the MMDA Metrobase said that save for Makati and Las Piñas, the rest of Metro Manila will not be observing the number-based traffic reduction scheme on Wednesday because of tropical storm Juaning.

“It will be lifted for the entire day because of the weather,” said Loristo.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino earlier confirmed that the number coding had been lifted Tuesday.

MMDA communication officer Vincent Lizada stated that the number coding scheme had been lifted to make travel convenient to those who headed home Tuesday afternoon. He said that it would only be for that day but the MMDA, through its Twitter page, said it had been extended up till Wednesday because of the storm.
