Streets closed today for ‘Garbo sa Lapu’

Some streets in  barangays Poblacion, Pajo and Gun-ob in Lapu-Lapu City will be closed starting  10  a.m. today for a parade and annual street dancing show,  Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu.

The festival dancing, part of the city’s fiesta celebration, unfolds in front of the GMC Plaza in GY dela Cerna street, participated by the city’s barangays.

It is divided into the “pasa-halad” or dance presentation, the street dancing category and the float category.

Frank Brazil, traffic management chief, advised visitors to leave their vehicles and use the ferry boats instead to cross over to Mactan from Cebu mainland  to ease   traffic congestion in these areas.

The civic-military parade  will include participants from law enforcement groups, rescue agencies and schools.

This year, three contingents signed up for the “pasa-halad” and street dancing  while nine  are  competing in the float category. The “Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu” was started during the administration of former mayor and now Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Arturo Radaza. Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
