Cebu will definitely host another international football match in the near future, perhaps at the Cebu City Sports Center’s new field.
This was revealed by Mariano “Nonong” Araneta, president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), shortly after the successful staging of the Fifa-sanctioned friendly between the Philippine Azkals and the Singapore Lions at the CCSC last Thursday night.
He said as the PFF hosts more friendly matches, Cebu will be considered a venue.
He said Cebu is also on the list as one of the venues when the PFF bids to host the AFC Challenge Cup in 2014.
A source said the success of Thursday’s friendly prompted football officials to discuss the possibility of getting Cebu to host another international friendly, this time against Kuwait in February.
Araneta was all praises for organizers of the Cebu match.
“Wala akong masabi, wala akong makitang kulang, (I can’t say anything. I don’t see any deficiency) everything is really great,” he said. The sports center will be used in January for the annual Sinulog parade and grand competition. Correspondent Mars G. Alison
