Following ita monumental win over perennial powerhouse Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the Cebu leg of the 2012 Milo-backed BEST Tournament, the Passerelle squad of the University of the Visayas aims for a bigger fish to fry as it competes in the Visayas regional championships today in Iloilo City.
UV is gunning for a seat to the national finals but will have to hurdle several tough opponents in the face of University of St. La Salle from Bacolod, Ateneo de Iloilo and Colegio dela Purisima Concepcion of Roxas City.
On the other hand, the Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) class will also have its title up for grabs between Cebu’s University of San Carlos, Bacolod’s St. John’s Institute, Iloilo’s Ateneo and Roxas’ College of St. Joseph.
Games will be played at the Iloilo Sports Complex today and tomorrow. USC and St. John’s are tipped to face each other in the finals with Ateneo de Iloilo as a darkhorse.
UV is also considered a title favorite in its first trip to the regional finals with USLS and Ateneo de Iloilo expected to crowd them at the top.
The winners of the regional finals will face off against the different regional champions from all over the country in the national finals slated Dec. 1-2 in Roxas City. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
