Calderon eyes crucial win in Kartzone series today
The pursuit for the Karter of the Year title ends today as current leader Jette Calderon tries to fend off the Juan Antonio “Tonyo” Carcel in the KT 100 Expert class in the seventh and final leg of the 2012 Kartzone Superkart Series at the Kartzone race track in brgy. Panagdait, Cebu City.
Calderon, Red Bull Supreme and Racing Industria’s ace karter, surged ahead in the standings as he claimed the championship in the sixth leg of this circuit.
In the final heat of that race, Calderon grabbed the lead from rival Carcel, who had pole position but couldn’t hold on to it in the end.
Calderon had 44 points during the sixth leg to notch 242 points in this series, just five points clear of Carcel’s total of 237.
Carcel remains unfazed inspite of the daunting task that awaits him today.
“I feel like I can do it but still, I really have to focus and concentrate on every single lap, during every single race. Moreover, I think I have to be patient with all my decisions during the race,” said Carcel.
Article continues after this advertisementThe sixth leg also saw karters virtually bag the titles in their respective classes starting with Rap-Rap Gutierrez sealing the SQ Cadet crown with his total of 266 points. Also winning the overall titles were Clive Fermin in the Honda Expert after he logged in a total of 271 points, and Panpan Reroma, who snatched the KT Masters title after accumulating 292 points.
The results in all the other divisions remain up in the air especially in the KT Novice class, which is being disputed by Kali Carcel and Vince Rojo. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
