Therapeutic massage training for disabled gets accreditation

08:47 AM November 16, 2012

The Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC II), a vocational training center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) in barangay Labangon, Cebu City, received a certificate of accreditation as a training institution for massage therapy from the Department of Health (DOH).
The accreditation was given after passing the assessment conducted by the Committee of Examiners for Massage Therapy from the DOH head office in Manila on the facilities, modules and pertinent documents of the center.
The government requires that massage therapists should have a certification from the DOH before practicing their skills.
The AVRC II is the second accredited training institution for massage therapy in the Visayas and first of the four vocational rehabilitation centers to be accredited as training institution nationwide.
It is the region’s non-residential institution that provides rehabilitation programs and services that persons with disabilities (PWDs) and other special groups can use in finding employment and other income generating activities.
Other AVRCs are located in Region I in Luzon, Region IX in Mindanao and in Quezon City in National Capital Region.
