MANILA, Philippines — A woman ended up behind bars on Tuesday night for allegedly using a fake name and credit card in “paying” for her groceries worth P14,000 at a Cubao supermarket.
The scheme was exposed when a cashier at the Shopwise Cubao noticed that the credit card’s color looked too dull to be the real thing.
The “Renz Ramos” on the HSBC credit card turned out to be really Chelou Alimague, who confessed to using the fake credit card, according to the Cubao police station commander, Superintendent Ramon Pranada.
Pranada said the real owner, Marigil Castro, found out that her account number had been used in a fake “duplicate card” bearing the suspect’s fake name.
Alimague was arrested with a certain Red Lopez and Mark Atienza at around 10 p.m. in Cubao.
The woman was allegedly using the duplicate card bearing the name “Renz Ramos.”
At the cashier as she was paying for the items, supermarket staff noticed something odd about her credit card.
“The color was dull and it (card) didn’t look authentic,” Pranada said.
The supermarket store contacted the issuing bank, which alerted Castro, the owner of the account.
The suspects are facing possible charges of estafa and violation of the Access Device Law, according to Pranada.
