Police Officer 3 Isagani de los Santos, San Narciso police investigator, said that Rolando Espelita, store owner in Barangay (village) Abuyon, accidentally lighted the gasoline container inside his store that caused the explosion on November 3 (not November 13 as earlier reported).
Police identified the fatalities as Reslie Ann Rivano, 12 and Irma Pinid, 26.
Rivano died on the spot from fatal injuries while Pinid died while being treated at the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City, police said.
Citing initial investigation by local firemen, police said the adult victims were playing cards when Rolando joked and lighted the fuel container near them that instantly exploded.
Among the injured were Rolando’s wife, Medelyn and sons, Kim Andrew, 10; and Kim Rolan, 12, police said.
The rest of the injured were siblings Gracia, Edna and Radel Rivano; Radel Tamo; Imat Pinid and Jodie Rivano, all residents of Barangay Abuyon.
Police said Rolando still remained at large.
