2nd Cebu Challenge race set

ALL IS SET for this the second Cebu Challenge Cycling Classic Mountain Bike race on Sunday starting at the Talisay City Hall.

The race will be a 150-kilometer race from Talisay City to Tuburan town northwestern Cebu via the tough mountain roads of Uling, Naga.

The race will be divided into two stages. It will laso have six categories, including the executives, fat, women’s open, seniors and juniors.

The theme of the race is “East To West connects West to East.”

The first stage will be an 82-kilometer ride until the summit of the Uling road. After a short break, the second stage begins with the route to Tuburan passing through Minglanilla, Toledo, Balamban and Asturias.

“We have checked the route and we measured it twice. We assure a safe race for our bikers,” said race director Joe Deresas in yesterday’s press conference at the Chopsticks Restaurant in Shopwise Mambaling.

Registration will end on Friday. Registration fee is pegged at P300 inclusive of a race jersey, packed lunch, certificate, special prize and bike and bib number. Registration areas are at the Chopstick Restaurant,  Edfil Restaurant in Citi Center Sanciangko and Cycle Logic in Parkmall Mandaue.

Organizer Boy Odilao is thankful for the strong support of Tuburan Mayor Aljun Diamante, who also vowed support for cycling in the region.

“I hope this will be the beginning of the revival of mountain bike races in Cebu. I will be here to support it all the way,” said Diamante.
