Eight-year-old Mary Rose Calda has been battling acute lymphocytic leukemia since she was 3 years old. But her mother, Marilou Calda, told the Inquirer that although Mary Rose’s chemotherapy sessions at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center will soon be over, the family will still have to raise funds for vaccine shots as well as the treatment of their daughter’s dental region where the symptoms of leukemia were detected.
“While other patients would experience infection, swelling, wounding and coughing, she had none of this,” said Marilou, whose husband, Eric, earns a living as a jeepney driver.
The Caldas are asking Inquirer readers for help so they can closely monitor Mary Rose’s health, including sending her for laboratory checkups for a period of five years until she is completely well.
“We would be very grateful if we can raise P25,000,” said Marilou.
