State of calamity in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY—More than two weeks after Tropical Storm “Ofel” hit this city, the council declared a state of calamity to allow the city government to use its calamity funds to help the families who suffered losses during the storm.

Ines Salvoro, officer in charge of the city social welfare and development office, said victims of the storm have yet to recover from their losses.

Many have yet to repair their damaged houses, Salvoro said.
