South District Eight, Six take lead on Day 1
South District Eight and Six currently leads the overall points standings after the first day of the 22nd Cebu City Olympics yesterday held at the Cebu City Sports Center.
South District Eight leads the secondary competition after its archers finished on top for 30 points. They dominated the 30-meter and 40m distances both in the boys and girls division courtesy of Jujith Llanto, Michael Solier, Sara Lee Garcia and Rosemarie Pacundo of the Gothong National High School. South District Eight’s taekwondo bets also chipped in 2.5 points.
North District One is running second with 25 points after its archers gathered 10 points and its jins added 15.
Cebu School’s Athletic Foundation Inc.’s (Cesafi) University of Cebu (UC) is currently at third place with 19 points.
In the elementary division, South District Six leads with 32.5 points all from the remarkable performances of its taekwondo jins.

Running second in the elementary division is South District Five with 25 points. The team ruled the baseball competition worth 25 points.
South District Four has 18 points for third place going into today’s action. Only taekwondo and baseball were finished yesterday while 16 other events are still being contested.
Cesafi member schools are expected to start making their moves today.
UC’s swimmers started competing yesterday and hauled five gold medals in the secondary division to lead the medal standings in the competition. Winners were Michael Ichiro Kong (200m individual medley), Beth May Arellano (200m IM), Trina Caneda (200m backstroke) and their 400m freestyle relay boys and girls teams.
UC’s elementary division ace swimmer Karen Mae Indaya is expected to win more gold medals today after her impressive performance yesterday. She won in the 50m backstroke, 200m IM and 400m freestyle.
UC finished its campaign in taekwondo with five gold medals via Eric and Veronica Garces, Maria Carmela Coran, Aila Marie Lepon and Marie Hanz Espina.
In the track and field events, Rozel Ardiente of UC won the first gold medal in the entire event after he dominated the 3,000m steeple chase. UC added three more gold medals courtesy of Camylle Psalm Mosota (400m hurdles), Doren Romeral (110/100m hurdles) and Shantel Tanucan (high jump).
University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) claimed two gold medals in the 1,500m run behind Joel Andrin and Crizel Diongson.
ANS’ Angel Mark Sicad topped the discus throw event while Cebu Institute of Technology-University’s (CIT-U) Bera Rose Saragena won in the distaff side.
USC won three gold medals in the track and field elementary division after Angeli Ann Iway ruled the high jump girls and Vince Menard Galan and Mary Joy Loberanis finished first in the 1,500m run.
