A 16-WHEEL cargo truck veered out of control and caused a 10-vehicle collision on the northbound lane of C-5 Road in Makati City Friday afternoon, killing a motorcycle rider and injuring eight others.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority identified the victim as James Bond Guaterno, 34, who was hit by the truck after its brakes failed around 2:40 p.m.

Greg Camacho of the MMDA Metrobase said “a chain collision followed” on the section of the highway in Barangay East Rembo near the Market! Market! shopping center.

Eight people sustained injuries and were rushed to Ospital ng Makati.

The truck driver, Normalito Rumbaoa, was placed under arrest.

Makati City traffic investigator SPO1 Mardy Domingo said Rumbaoa lost control and was forced to ram the vehicle into a roadside wall after the brakes failed.

But the truck also ended up hitting Guaterno’s motorcycle, triggering a chain collision that involved three more motorbikes and five cars.

The truck and three of the damaged cars remained at the crash site at press time, aggravating the evening rush hour traffic.
