Manhunt on for 7 Quezon jail escapees

MANILA, Philippines—Police said a manhunt operation was ongoing seven inmates who escaped from a jail in Quezon province before dawn Thursday.

An initial report from the Polilio Municipal Police Station said that seven detainees from its Lock-Up Jail in Barangay (village) Poblacion in Polilio, Quezon, escaped from their cell around 2:30 a.m.

The escapees were identified as Mark Anthony, 18 (in robbery); Leoven Bo, 24 (robbery case); Arnold John Montano, 19 (robbery and illegal possession of deadly weapon cases); Melchor Buegis, 43 (murder case); Santos Penascusas (rape case); Arwel Grispor, 33 (theft case); and Merlito Bo, 26 (illegal possession of deadly weapon case).

The report said the fugitives made their escape by sawing the round steel bar of their detention cell.—Jamie Marie Elona
