ALA pug Nietes to face Thai foe in tune-up fight in Dumaguete

WBO light flyweight world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes of the ALA Gym is penned to face Danai Meendaeng of Thailand in a 10-round non-title bout at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in Dumaguete City.

This is a tune-up for Nietes (30W-1L-3D, 16 KOs) as he prepares for his defense early next year against WBO minimumweight champion Moises Fuentes of Mexico.

In his last fight, Nietes beat Mexican Felipe Salguero by unanimous decision last June at the Resorts World in Pasay City for his first defense of his title.

Meendaeng is an unknown entity but he had one fight in the Philippines last October 29, 2011 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, where he lost to Cris Paulino by unanimous decision for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental flyweight title.

Also set to see action is Jimrex “The Executioner” Jaca (35W-6L-3D, 20 KOs), who will face Jaypee ignacio (8W-14L-2D, 2 KOs) of Quezon City in another 10-rounder.

Jaca scored an impressive eighth round knockout win over Angel Martinez of Mexico last August at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Ignacio lost on points to Philippine jr.welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto last August in Mandaluyong City.

Scheduled to appear on the undercards are Mark Vincent Bernaldez vs JR Mendoza (8 rounds), Crispin Parba vs Lyndon Castillo (4 rounds), Steve Ricaborda vs Marwin Cristota (4 rounds) and Ian Teves vs Jayvee Galea (4 rounds).

Meanwhile, the fight between “Prince” Albert Pagara and Thailand’s Tawanrung Eausampan in Maasin City has been moved a day earlier from Nov. 16 to Nov. 15. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
