MANILA, Philippines — More provinces were placed under storm warning signals as “Juaning” intensified into a tropical storm, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.
In its weather bulletin, Pagasa said that Juaning was seen 90
kilometers north northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 150 km east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte.
Juaning now packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the centerr aand gusts of up to 80 kph.
The tropical storm is forecast to move west northwestward at 19 kph. Signal number two has been raised over Catanduanes, Albay and Camarines Provinces. Signal number 1 has been hoisted over locos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Cagayan, Isabela, Ifugao, Mt. Province, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva. Ecija, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Polillo Island, and Sorsogon.
“Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under signals two and one are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.”
Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone,” Pagasa said.
Juaning will also continue to bring rains over Central and Southern
Luzon and Visayas, the state-run weather bureau added.
By Wednesday morning, Juaning will be in the vicinity of Dagupan City and by Thursday morning, it will be 260 km west northwest of Laoag City.
