DILG, PNP fine-tuning security plan for 2013 elections

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) met with Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas Tuesday regarding their security plan for the coming elections.

Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo, PNP spokesman, said that they are now in the midst of planning with Roxas for next year’s midterm elections.

“Many factors are being considered and the plan will still undergo some fine-tuning,” Cerbo told reporters in a briefing Tuesday.

Roxas has been giving his inputs regarding the plan and presiding over the meetings with the members of Task Force Safe (Secured And Fair Elections), Cerbo said.

Among the critical factors they are looking at were the private armed groups, loose firearms and expired gun licenses, troop deployments, threat groups, election hotspots, etc., he said.

“We are not just focused on the security but also on the entire election environment,” Cerbo said.

They are also set to meet with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Commission on Election to discuss their security plans further, he added.
