Mandaue mayor reminded of ‘pink room’ ordinance

MANDAUE City Councilor Editha Cabahug filed a resolution reminding Mayor Jonas Cortes of the  city ordinance in establishing a pink room in the Mandaue City Hospital.

“Nataligam-an lang seguro ni mao naghimo ta ug resolution nga mu remind ni mayor nga naay existing ordinance regarding aning pag-establish ug pink room sa syudad,” Cabahug told Cebu Daily News.

(Maybe he just forgot about the ordinance, thus this resolution to remind him about it.)

She  sponsored the ordinance approved on Sept. 10, 2009 when she was still the chairperson of the Committee of Women and Children.

Cabahug revealed that Mandaue as a highly urbanized city needs to have its own pink room to attend to the needs of the abused women and children.

City Ordinance no. 11-2009-530 mandates the Mandaue local government unit to adopt a continuing program of providing proper initial medical services and medico-legal documentation of the victims of violence and abuse.

A ordinance requires the establishment of a pink room within the Mandaue City Hospital. The facility will provide abused women and children with special health care and medico-legal services.

When necessary the victims can secure free legal assistance. Victims will also be assisted in the investigation and in hastening the arrest of the offenders and  filing the charges in court.

The pink room also offers psychological counseling and medical services to abused women and children.

Mayor Cortes in response said that his administration is trying its best to implement the ordinance and have coordinated with the head of City Health Office, Dr. Edna Seno. He added that they have already identified areas where to place the pink room. /Jucell Marie P. Cuyos, Correspondent
