MANILA, Philippines—Some 5,000 regular city employees stand to benefit from the P1.85 billion allocated by the Quezon City government for the final tranche of its salary standardization program. The new round of salary increases is expected to  take effect in January next year, an announcement said.

The P1.85 billion for the fourth tranche in the implementation of the salary standardization law is about 0.27 percent higher than the P1.67 billion set aside by the city this year for the third tranche.

In a press statement, Mayor Herbert Bautista described the grant of the increase as a means of helping city hall employees cope with their daily  needs.

He said that the funding requirement for the implementation of the final tranche of the salary standardization scheme is a priority in the city’s expenditures for next year, an election year.

The fourth and final tranche is provided for under the Salary Standardization Law. Under the measure, the city council is tasked to determine the rate of increase based on the local government unit’s income class and financial capability provided that the salary allocation does not exceed the personal services cost limitation of the city budget.
